Smita is a neuropharmacologist with over 25 years of experience working in the pharmaceutical industry. Smita holds a BSc. Hons (Pharmacology) from Cardiff University and a PhD in Movement Disorders from the University of Manchester. She conducted post-doctoral research with Prof. Meldrum at the Institute of Psychiatry in London, specialising in epilepsy and schizophrenia. Smita then embarked on a career in CNS drug discovery and development. She spent 15 years at Merck Neuroscience Research Centre in Harlow, leading multidisciplinary teams to identify clinical candidates for CNS disorders. Following this, Smita progressed to the position of Managing Director of Curidium in London; a small biotech focused on identifying molecular biomarkers for patient stratification and targeted therapies. Smita is currently an independent consultant undertaking strategic and analytic engagements with biotechnology companies and academic institutions. She is presently a member of the BPS Finance Committee.
